Jazz at the MMI presents: The Robin Pengilley Quartet
Jazz at the MMI is back for the Autumn/Winter!
We are excited to share a series of three very special concerts curated with bass player James Macphail and featuring a selection of the Southwest's finest musicians.
We are delighted to be kicking off on Saturday 26th September when we will be joined by Cornish trumpeter Robin Pengilley who will be making his MMI debut with his quartet!
A highly versatile and in-demand musician, Robin is well known for his precision, flair, and exceptional musicality across a range of styles.
Robin’s impeccable skill is rooted in a robust education. He holds a degree from the University of Plymouth, where he studied under the guidance of acclaimed educators Noel Langley and Steve Waterman. He also received rigorous mentorship from notable trumpeters Philippe Schartz and Tim Carleston.
As a dedicated jazz musician, he has made a significant mark on the South West music scene. He regularly performs with various big bands, such as Cornwall's own Leskyn Kernow, and his talent has taken him to the iconic Ronnie Scott's where he featured as part of Mike Westbrooks' Uncommon Orchestra.
Don't miss out on an outstanding evening of swing, straight ahead jazz and Miles Davis inspired interpretations of classic jazz standards!
Robin will be joined onstage by:
Martin Bowie - Guitar
James Macphail - Bass
