Job Purpose
To provide friendly and efficient bar service during events, ensuring a welcoming environment and responsible service of alcohol in line with licensing laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to customers during events.
- Handle cash, operate the point-of-sale system and process card payments accurately.
- Maintain financial accountability for all transactions relating to the operation of the bar.
- Set up and close down the bar, including stocking, cleaning and preparing for service.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bar area, including glassware and equipment.
- Ensure the responsible service of alcohol, including checking ID when required and refusing service when necessary.
- Work as part of a small, professional team to provide excellent customer service to MMI visitors.
- Assist with restocking supplies and keeping accurate records of stock usage.
- Follow and comply with all health and safety legislation, as well as MMI policies and procedures, at all times.
- Liaise regularly with the Bar Manager to ensure good communication and that decisions are appropriately approved.
- Work confidently on your own initiative.
- Be confident working alone in the bar when required.
Skills & Qualities
- Friendly, approachable and customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy, social environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Basic numeracy and cash-handling skills.
- Previous bar or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential. Training can be provided.
Licensing
- Comply with all relevant licensing legislation.
Health & Safety
- Comply with all relevant Health and Safety at Work legislation.
- Comply with the MMI’s Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Hold an up-to-date Emergency First Aid at Work certificate and ensure it is renewed when required.
Hours
- Casual / part-time, depending on the event schedule.
- Work will mainly involve evenings and weekends.

Job Description: MMI Events Manager (Maternity Cover)
Duration: 12 months
Hours: 20hrs/week contracted with the possibility of more hours depending on the number of events. (1 year includes training and handover time before and after the maternity leave period)
Pay: £14.81 per hour
The MMI needs an Events Manager to cover 1 year’s maternity leave and support the forthcoming exciting programme of MMI Events.
What you will be doing:
- Managing the existing planned programme of events at the MMI in line with the MMI’s values and vision.
- Developing and facilitating exciting future events within budget, with a focus on community engagement and positive financial impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage events bookings, advance administration, and on the day coordination.
- Increase the number of events (both public & private) taking place at the MMI and ensure their financial viability.
- Maintain a rolling events diary, planned at least 3-6 months in advance.
- Management of events staff – ensuring appropriate staffing for events and efficient room setup/clear up.
- Handle recruitment, induction and training of new staff/volunteers where required
- Create/source promotional material for MMI events and manage ticketing
- Promote MMI Events in liaison with the Content Creator and Marketing Assistant
- Work as part of a small professional team – meeting weekly with MMI Manager, Bar Manager and Content Creator and Marketing Assistant to ensure good communication and liaising regularly with the MMI Manager to ensure decisions are approved.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Event Coordination
Ability to plan, set up, and run community events. Good understanding of event logistics, scheduling, and room setup.
- Customer Service & Communication Skills
Warm, welcoming attitude when interacting with MMI users and event attendees. Clear and friendly communication with MMI users, volunteers, suppliers, and staff. Confident answering enquiries and liaising with hirers/artists in person, by phone, and by email. Keen to represent the MMI within the St Agnes Community
- Administrative Skills
Confident with calendars, booking systems, spreadsheets, ticketing, and basic recordkeeping. Able to maintain financial accountability for all transactions relevant to the operation of the Events and work to a given budget.
- Organisation and Time Management
Reliable, punctual and organised. Ability to prioritise tasks and support multiple events in a busy community schedule. Strong attention to detail, especially for event setup and equipment needs
- Practical and HandsOn Skills
Ability to help with physical event setup (chairs, tables, signage, equipment). Confidence with audio/visual equipment including basic troubleshooting of AV equipment, heating/lighting controls, or venue supplies. Capable of creating the right atmosphere specific to an event.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
Comfortable managing a small friendly team including volunteers and events staff. Flexible and happy to support others where needed, including potentially helping behind the bar when working events if necessary
- Problem Solving
Ability to think on your feet during events and resolve issues quickly and professionally. Calm under pressure when plans change or unexpected challenges arise
- Health & Safety Awareness
Understanding of essential venue safety, safeguarding, and risk considerations. Able to follow and uphold MMI policies and procedures
- Adaptability
Ability to switch between administrative, practical, and customer facing tasks. Positive attitude toward learning new skills and taking on varied duties
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends for events

Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Previous Events Management experience in a community/charity setting.
- Familiarity with St Agnes Village and previous engagement with the MMI community.
