Job Description: MMI Bar Staff

Zero hours contract

Pay £13.45 per hour

Location: St Agnes MMI
Reports to: Bar Manager

Job Purpose

To provide friendly and efficient bar service during events, ensuring a welcoming environment and responsible service of alcohol in line with licensing laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to customers during events.
  • Handle cash, operate the point-of-sale system, and process card payments accurately.
  • Maintain financial accountability for all transactions relevant to the operation of the Bar
  • Set up and close down the bar, including stocking, cleaning, and preparing for service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bar area, including glassware and equipment.
  • Ensure responsible service of alcohol, checking ID when required and refusing service when necessary.
  • Work as part of a small professional team to provide excellent customer service to MMI visitors.
  • Assist with restocking supplies and keeping accurate records of stock usage.
  • Follow and comply with all health and safety at work legislation and MMI policies and procedures at all times.
  • Liaise regularly with Bar Manager to ensure good communication and to ensure decisions are approved.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Confident working in Bar on own.

Skills & Qualities

  • Basic numeracy and cash-handling skills.
  • Previous bar or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential (training can be provided).

Job Description: MMI Events Assistant

Zero hours contract

Pay £13.45 per hour

The MMI needs an Events Assistant to work with the Events Manager to support the smooth running of MMI Events.

What you will be doing

  • Providing excellent customer service in the MMI.
  • Work as part of a professional team.
  • Helping develop and deliver an innovative programme of events at the MMI in line with the MMI’s values and vision
  • Liaison with artists/hirers
  • Ensuring the room is set up appropriately for the event taking place
  • Maintain financial accountability for all transactions relevant to the operation of the Events and work to a given budget.
  • Event ticket management – including using ticketsource.co.uk to set up/check in tickets for events
  • Ensure events are appropriately staffed by competent staff members/volunteers
  • Liaise regularly with the Events Manager to ensure good communication and to ensure decisions are approved.
  • Promote the MMI Events in liaison with the MMI Marketing Manager.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Event Coordination Support

Ability to assist with planning, setting up, and running community events.  Basic understanding of event logistics, scheduling, and room setup.

  • Practical, hands-on approach
    Willingness to help with setup/clear-down of spaces
  • Reliability and responsibility
    Reliable and punctual, so you can be relied upon to meet the expectations of your role.  Being trusted to run an event smoothly when the Events Manager is not in attendance.  
  • Communication Skills

Clear and friendly communication with MMI users, volunteers, suppliers, and staff.  Confident answering enquiries in person, by phone, and by email.  Keen to represent the MMI within the St Agnes Community

  • Customer Service

Warm, welcoming attitude when interacting with MMI users and event attendeesAbility to handle queries, bookings, and minor issues professionally

  • Administrative Skills

Competent with calendars, booking systems, spreadsheets, and basic recordkeeping. Ability to produce simple documents, forms, and checklists

  • Organisation and Time Management

Ability to prioritise tasks and support multiple events in a busy community schedule.  Strong attention to detail, especially for event setup and equipment needs

  • Practical and HandsOn Skills

Willingness to help with physical event setup (chairs, tables, signage, equipment). Basic troubleshooting of AV equipment, heating/lighting controls, or venue supplies.  Capable of creating the right atmosphere specific to the event

  • Teamwork and Collaboration

Comfortable working closely with a small team, volunteers, and community groupsFlexible and happy to support others where needed, including helping behind the bar when working events if necessary

Ability to think on your feet during events and resolve small issues quicklyCalm under pressure when plans change or unexpected challenges arise

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Previous Events Management experience
  • Experience supporting events in a community space
  • Ability to work independently
